Mr. Oaks, 84, of Shelby, NC passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at his home. A native of Cleveland County, NC, he was a self employed Paint Contractor and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He also served from July 1944 until June of 1946 in the U. S. Navy during WW II. Mr. Oaks was preceeded in death by his parents C. H. Oaks & Lilly Lail Oaks, brothers Thurman, Ed, Worth, Ernest, Bobby & Talmadge Oaks, and a sister Eva. O. Cook. Mr. Oaks is survived by his wife Betty Thomas Oaks of the home, two daughters and their husbands Sheila Bridges & Dean of Shelby, and Donna Goins & David of Cherryville. Mr. Oaks has grandchildren; Kelly Parnell & husband Kelsey, Shelly Pierce, Hope Franklin, Kimberly Robb & Brian Goins. His great grandchildren are Kelsey Walker, Bobbie Walker, Logan Pierce, Tristen Pierce, Richard Bridges, Storm Bridges, Tiffany Robb & Shara Mayes, and two step grandchildren Angela Willis & Dennis Bridges. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
