Albert Eugene "Gene" Davis passed away peacefully at his home on March 20, 2013.
Gene was a devoted and loving father and grandfather and enjoyed spending his Sunday dinners with his family. He was a faithful member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church and was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge #202. Gene is a Veteran of the United States Army and he served in the Korean War until he was injured in active duty and received the Purple Heart. Gene spent most of his professional career working in the furniture business with Kester's Furniture and Sterchi's Furniture. He was also a small business owner for many years owning the Scottie Store in Uptown Shelby where he met many friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents Samuel Valentine and Hokie McMurry Davis and step mother Ruby Oliver Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sue Bailey Davis; sisters Elizabeth Lee, Madeline Shuford, Ruby Short, Shirley Smith and Doris Eades.
Gene is survived by his brother James Davis and wife Katie; two sons, Al Davis and wife Elizabeth; Sam Davis and wife Kim; one daughter, Andrea Davis Moss and husband David; seven grandchildren Melissa Moss Gerstenberg and husband Kevin, Bailey Davis Calloway and husband Matthew, Shelley Moss Snyder and husband Eric, Erin Davis, Steven Davis, Alex Davis Bradley and husband Caleb, Stephanie Davis; three great-grandchildren that he adored, Cannon and Alden Snyder and Evan Gerstenberg.
