Mr. Robbins, 84, of 624 Norwood Street, Shelby, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Rutherford County, Mr. Robbins retired after 30 years of service as the manager of the Disabled American Veterans. Following retirement he was a driver for Jack Morgan & Company and Carter Chevrolet. He was co-owner of Logos To Go Embroidery in Shelby. Mr. Robbins was a life time member of the DAV, VFW, Amvets, American Legion and the order of the Moose Lodge. He was the driving force in the building of Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium through the joint efforts of the local veteran clubs. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a Mason & Shriner and served in the U. S. Coast Guard. Mr. Robbins was preceded in death by his parents Hoyle V. Robbins & Rilla Towery Robbins, six sisters; Beatrice Poteat, Ruby Dycus, Brunna Philbeck, Mattie Polistrini, Edith Hunt & Poly Freeman, and brothers Lawrence Robbins, Harold Robbins and Davis Robbins. Mr. Robbins is survived by a daughter Tammy R. Chapman and husband Mike of Shelby, two grandsons Allen White & Cody Chapman both of Shelby, two brothers; Ernest Robbins of Hickory, and Horace Robbins and wife Lavonne of Buford, GA., and a sister Merle Lackey of Shelby. In addition to these he is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and his constant companions Lilly & Stitcher who he loved dearly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Robbins caregivers provided through Helping Hands: Maxine Borders, Margaret Wilson, Crystal Roseberry, Ruth Huffstetler and to the 4 East nursing staff and doctors for their cxcellent care. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. J. M. Ezell and Rev. Leland Kerr. Memorials may be made to Brain Injury Association of Cleveland County, Division of Mental Health Association, 215 E.
