A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Gordon R. Mode & Vernell Padgett Mode. Barbara joined the church at an early age and served as pianist at Beaver Dam Baptist Church where she was a member and Double Shoals Baptist Church. She retired from the Department of Social Services after thirty-one years, worked at Children's Homes of Cleveland County for 16 years and served on the Children's Homes board of directors. She loved to cook, read, work puzzles, paint, playing the guitar and piano, and enjoyed singing. She especially loved taking care of children and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sisters, Joy Hoyle & husband Rob of Shelby and Wanda McManus & husband Rev. Paul McManus of Boiling Springs; nephew, Robby Hoyle of Shelby; nieces, Jeanna Anthony & husband Dr.Stephen Anthony of Ringgold, GA, Jill Urwick & husband Lee of Weddington, Jan Thomas & husband, Adam of Weddington, Lacy Hamrick & husband Jonny of Shelby; seven great nieces & nephews and two great great nieces & nephews.
