Mr. Benjamin Dewitt Hare, 75 of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Peak Resources in Shelby.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anne Elliott Hare of the home, children; Angie Gates and husband Alan of Shelby, NC, Tanya Davis and husband Jim of Concord, NC, and Benjy Hare and wife Dana of Shelby, NC, grandchildren; Jed, Caley, and Alana Gates, Austin Davis, Hannah and Joanna Hare, sister; Mary Veneta Boyden and husband Richard of Pensacola, FL, and two nephews, Paul and Matthew Boyden.
Born October 14, 1940 in Savannah, GA, Mr. Hare was the son of the late Benjamin Coley Hare and Margaret Bryson Hare.
Mr. Hare owned and operated Ben Hare Sales, Inc. for more than 35 years. He was a member of Putnam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sang bass for Gateway Quartet. He enjoyed collecting knives and watching sports, especially Carolina Panthers football. Ben loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by those that knew him.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, April 15, 2016 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel and at other times at 104 Northeastern Drive, Shelby. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Putnam Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Bryan Glisson and Rev. Kenny Smith. Burial will follow at Elliott Family Cemetery on Elliott Cemetery Road in Polkville.
