Bernard Stokes Harvey

   Mr. Bernard Stokes Harvey, age 82 of Shelby, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

   He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Cash Harvey of the home, a son, Daniel Harvey, and daughter in law, Heidi Hildebran Harvey of Valdese, NC, two grandchildren, Adam Harvey and William Harvey of Valdese, NC, a niece, Cindy Jolly of Gaffney, SC, and a nephew, Chris Cash of Simpsonville, SC and his loyal dog, Jasper.

   Born April 28, 1941, in Cherokee County, SC, Bernard was the son of the late James Bernard Harvey and Ruby Meredith Harvey and was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances Cromer and Ann Harvey.

   Bernard grew up in Gaffney, SC. He attended Gardner Webb University and received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Limestone College. He went to work for Burlington Industries out of college and then went to work at Parkdale Mills in Gastonia until retirement. He managed five different plants and was chosen “Man of the Year,” many times during his career. He often traveled to Europe for his company. In 1964 he married Sylvia Cash and they resided in Gaston County until retiring to Boiling Springs, NC. They enjoyed traveling to Europe and the Western United States. Bernard loved sports. He played college football and in his adult years was an avid rock climber, tri-athlete, and also enjoyed mountain biking with is son, Dan.

   A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory conducted by Rev. Eddie Clay, Associate Pastor of Elizabeth Baptist, Shelby, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
