Mrs. Betty Jean McGinnis Walker, 85 of Shelby, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at Carillon Assisted Living in Shelby.
She is survived by her two children, Grady E. Walker, Jr. of Shelby, NC, and Cheryl Peeler and husband Joe of Shelby, NC, a granddaughter, Michele Marie Martin, and a great grandson, Bryson Reid Martin.
Born November 1, 1930 in Cleveland County, Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Furman C. McGinnis and Lula (Ellis) McGinnis and was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Grady E. Walker, Sr.
Mrs. Walker graduated from Boiling Springs High School. Following her graduation, she attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. She was an accomplished pianist and vocalist who served at many local churches. Betty worked and retired from First National Bank after 30 years of service. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, the beach, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed by those that knew her.
The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the caregivers at Carillon Assisted Living and Hospice of Cleveland County for the loving care that they gave Betty.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel conducted by Rev. Jerry Rumfelt. A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:30 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
