Mr Billy Hamrick Davis died September 14, 2009. The son of the late John Ed and Mattie Davis, he was born in Cleveland County, January 24, 1927. He graduated from Lattimore High School. Billy went on to North Carolina State University where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. He then served in the U. S. Army at the end of World War **. He earned a Masters Degree in Education from Appalachian State University and a Masters Degree from University of South Carolina in Mathematics. He taugh at Mooresboro School, Polkville School, Shelby Junior and Senior High Schools and at the College of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran Saudi Arabia. After retired from teaching in 1982, Mr. Davis became a full time farmer. Along with his son Mike, he owned a hog and chicken farm. Billy was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church where he taught youth Sunday school for many years. He also served the church as a deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Lewis and brothers, John Ed Jr. and Walter Davis. He is survived by his wife Betty Scism Davis, a son, Mike Davis and wife, Melissa, and a daughter, Debbie Davis and husband Sonny. He was also Granddaddy to Stacy, Shawn and wife, Jana, Cass, Jed, Sam, Misty and husband Wade, Tim Mitchell, and step-grandson, Neil Eddings and wife, Jennifer. Great grandchildren are Connor, Braxton, Ellery, Avery, Briana, Preston, Sarah, Andrew, Latasha, Carlos, Nelahni and Steve. Billy is also survived by his sisters, Faith Adams, Frances Bryce and Jean Bankhead and husband John. A memorial service will be Saturday, September 26, at 4:00 pm at Double Springs Baptist Church.
