Blaine Froneberger

October 8, 1930 — March 7, 2011

Mr. Froneberger, 80, of Shelby, NC, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy Hospital in Charlotte. Blaine was born and raised in Cherryville, North Carolina. He attended Gardner-Webb College, Appalachian State University and UNC-Charlotte where he obtained a Masters degree. He was a teacher, coach, and assistant principal at Kings Mountain High School. He was twice named Teacher of the Year. He also enjoyed coaching Varsity Girls' basketball. Blaine loved baseball and played in high school, college, and also during his Naval career. He also coached the Shelby American Legion. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and enjoyed working in his garden. He loved visiting his second home at Ocean Lakes. He was a mamber of Riverbend and enjoyed playing golf with the Seniors and his Riverbend Golf buddies. Mr. Froneberger was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served in Japan and in the Korean Conflict. During his naval career he recieved the United Nations Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Metal. Blaine was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Mr. Froneberger was preceded in death by his parents Jonas Michael Forneberger & Alma Faye Sellers Froneberger, brothers J. M. Froneberger Jr. & Harold Froneberger, and a sister Marjorie Shaw. Mr. Froneberger is survived by his wife Mabel L. Froneberger of the home, two daughters and their husbands Rhonda Hamrick & Dale of Boiling Springs, NC, and Kelli Shelor & Myron of Cherryville, NC, grandchildren Kaitlyn & Allison Hamrick. In addition to these he is also survived by a brother and his wife Wayne Froneberger & Beatrice of Cherryville, a sister and her husband Sara Black & Rans of Aiken, SC, a sister-in-law Helen Froneberger of Cherryville, many beloved Nieces and Nephews, and special friends Dana Blalock Drennan, Cara Ellis and Logan Costner. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev.C. Wayne Allen and Rev. Katie Roberts pastors of Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Shelby, NC. Memorials may be made to Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County, PO Box 2001, Shelby, NC 28151 or Aldersgate United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1207 West Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC 28152.
