Bob Barnette

June 12, 1931 — October 17, 2012

A native of Cleveland County,

Mr. Barnette co-founded

Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in 1960.



He was also a truck driver for Akers

Motor Lines, co-owner of Barnette's

Bee Hive and owner of Colonial Braided

Rug Company from 1978 until his retirement.



Bob was an avid golfer throughout his life and

recorded his only "hole-in-one" in Japan.



He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church

where he served as a Sunday school teacher of the

"Doer's" class, a deacon and a member of the choir.



He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.



Mr. Barnette was the son of the late Esley Newton

Barnette and Jessie Eva Hamrick Barnette.  He was

also preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years,

Nelma Hallman Barnette; a daughter, Jenny

Lee Barnette; son-in-law, James Hull; and a brother,

Winfred Lee Barnette.



He is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Hull of

Lattimore, Lori Goodwin & husband, Ed of Edenton,

Donna Noblitt of Shelby; brother, Johnny Barnette of

Shelby; sister, Pat Young of Henrico; five grandsons,

Gene McCurry, Jamey Hull, Kenji Goodwin, Kaz Goodwin

and Ben Noblitt; and two great granddaughters, Brooke

McCurry & Sarah McCurry.



Dr. Eric Davis & Rev. Steve Austin will officiate.



The family will receive friends following the service.
