Born November 12, 1931 in Ellenboro, NC, Mr. Bailey was the eldest son of the late Ambrose E. Bailey and Thelma Whitaker Bailey, and was preceded in death by his son Kevin Bailey. Carl attended Cliffside High School, in Cliffside, NC. Carl served as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era earning the rank of Corporal. Carl went to work for PPG Industries in 1957 where he retired as a Winder Rebuild Mechanic after 35 years. Over the years, he began preparing tax returns for himself, family and friends, and later did so professionally. After his retirement, he continued his second career as a tax preparer, helping hundreds of families each year until he retired the second time in 2007.
All his life, Carl loved to fish, water ski, garden, and mow grass, but mostly loved to help people. If he saw a neighbor working on anything, or they seemed to need help, he was the first to pitch in. He was an extremely happy man that was famous for whistling, albeit off key, while he worked and played. He taught hundreds of people how to water ski, and counseled and taught countless Boy Scouts to earn their Boating, Fishing, and Water Skiing merit badges.
Mr. Bailey was member of the Double Springs Baptist Church since 1964, where he served as a Deacon, and volunteered, helping build the Family Life Center.
Pallbearers will be: Steve Phillips, Phil McClellan, Ryan Bailey, Dylan Bailey, Chad Bailey, and Roger Bailey.
The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff at Peak Resources, especially Sandy Lesieur, who went above and beyond to make Carl feel loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Family Life Center building fund at Double Springs Baptist Church, 1130 Double Springs Church Road, Shelby NC 28150.
