Carl Hughes

Mr. Carl "Clifford" Hughes, 93, of Shelby, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Hospice of Cleveland County at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he is the son of the late Carl Hughes and Una Roberts Hughes. He had worked in the banking industry with Union Trust Company, Independence National and BB&T for 40 years. He loved sacred music, working in the yard and traveling. He was a life-long member of Second Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Hicks Hughes; one brother, Dan Hughes; one sister, Elizabeth Piercy.

He is survived by two sons, Carl Hughes and wife Ruby of Shelby and Phil Hughes and wife Charlotte of Shelby; one sister, Doris McCurry of Shelby; four grandchildren, Justin Hughes, Holly Hughes, Laura Ikuma and husband Takeshi and Amy Radzom and husband Matt; numerous nieces and nephews.
