Mr. Charles Edward Humphries, age 84 of Shelby, stepped through the gates of Heaven on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Peak Resources in Cherryville.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Brooks Humphries of the home, a son, Ronald Eugene Humphries (Mercedes) of Kings Mountain, NC, three grandchildren, Todd Tongel (Sara) of Shelby, NC, Deanna Webb (Kaleb) of Shelby, NC, and Jon Daniel Humphries of Kings Mountain, NC, two great grandchildren, Taylor Tongel and Madilyn Humphries, a sister, Mary Helen Humphries Warren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born March 19, 1934 in Cleveland County, Mr. Humphries was the son of the late Cecil and Margaret (Bell) Humphries and was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Humphries Patrick and a brother, Robert Humphries.
Charles worked for the D.O.T. for more than 42 years as the landscape supervisor, Division 12. He particularly enjoyed working on the wildflower beds along the interstate. He also enjoyed working in his garden and building crafts that he donated to Relay for Life. Charles loved telling jokes and had a great sense of humor. He never met anyone that was a stranger.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 am Monday, July 2, 2018 at Double Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Shelby conducted by Rev. Bill Fryar and Rev. Jimmy Black. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:30 am prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Baskets of Love, Double Springs Baptist Church, 1130 Double Springs Church Rd, Shelby, NC 28150.
