Charles Wendell Leonard Sr., age 59, of Shelby, NC, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at his residence.
Born November 8, 1954 in Chester County, SC, he was the son of the late John Thomas Leonard and Nettie Virginia Davis Leonard. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, an auto body mechanic and loved to go bass fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sandra Emory Leonard; son, Wendell Leonard and wife April; daughter, Sharon McMahan and husband Chris; sister, Judy Small; brother, Donald Davis; grandchildren, Mason Leonard, Breanna Leonard, Isabell Leonard, Madison Duncan, Rebecca McMahan, Carter McMahan, Sage McMahan, Abby McMahan, Taylor McMahan .
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church with Dr. J. Barry Goodman and Rev. Johnny Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Cook Memorial Gardens (Faith Baptist Church Cemetery on Dravo Rd.). The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
