Clara Greenway

Mrs. Greenway, 96, of Shelby, NC, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Hospice House in Kings Mountain, NC. A native of Rutledge, Tenn., Clara retired from Ora Mill Company where she was a cloth inspector. She was a member of Dover Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School teacher and served as the church hostess for a number of years. She was also a member of the V. F. W. Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Dover-Ora Women's club. Clara was preceded in death by her parents William M. Surber & Myra Harbin Surber, her husband Ernest James Greenway, a son William Van Greenway, two brothers Carl & Eugene Greenway, and four sisters; Margaret Surber, Erlene Jenkins, Jeanette Heinbach and Eldora Barnett. Clara is survived by a daughter Judith Greenway Carter & William Terry Carter of Huntersville and Surf City, NC, a daughter-in-law Christine Wright Greenway of Shelby, brothers Bill Surber and Jim Surber both of Kings Mountain, NC, sisters Marilyn Pheagin of Shelby and Helen Goode of Mooresville, three granddaughters Gretchen Marquardt of Charleston, SC, Denise Swafford and Penny Grigg both of Shelby, two great grandchildren Kelli Bailey and David Swofford Jr. both of Shelby, two great great grandchildren Hannah Swafford & Jami Bailey along with a number of beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Bulo Ervin Price pastor of Dover Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Dover Baptist Church, 1501 Polkville Road, Shelby, NC 28150.
