Clarence Junior Cogdell

   Mr. Clarence Junior Cogdell, age 82 of Shelby, NC, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Atrium Health in Shelby.

   He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Tesseneer Cogdell of the home, his two children, Krusher Lee Cogdell of Shelby, NC, and Susan Diane Cogdell Labat of Shelby, NC, two grandchildren, Brittany Cline (Ryan Deviney) of Casar, NC, and Trevor Labat of Boiling Springs, NC, a great grandson, Archer Deviney, his siblings, Betty Mellon of Casar, NC, Aileen Cogdell of Casar, NC, Bobby Dean Cogdell (Robin) of Shelby, NC, Brenda Smith (Larry) of Shelby, NC, and David Cogdell (Sherry) of Casar, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

   Born March 4, 1941, in Cleveland County, NC, Clarence was the son of the late Clarence Gordon Cogdell and Lillie Bell (Jenkins) Cogdell and was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Allen Cogdell.

    Right after high school, he married Barbara, his childhood sweetheart.  They spent 62 years together, working side-by-side.  He was an accomplished wood turner also an excellent mechanic and enjoyed farming.  He spent almost 4 decades as the manager for South Mountain Pulpwood Company.  After retirement, he enjoyed working at Beaverdam auto action where he had made many friends. 

   A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Cleveland Funeral Services.  A visitation will be held from 1:00pm – 3:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
