Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife Deloria G. Williams, his mother, Patsy Wallace Beam a sister and brother in law Annie Laura Baker and Miles L. Baker. He is survived by a brother Jerry Beam, a niece Amanda B. Johnson, grand nephews Charles & Ted Johnson, a grand niece Carrie Kale and her children Katherine and Jacob.
Mr. Williams excelled at Shelby High School in football, baseball, basketball, and was President of his class.After graduation Clyde joined the North Carolina Army National Guard. He was mobilized September 16, 1940 and served as part of the U.S.Army 30th Infantry Division during World War II. In 1944 and 45 he served in England, Holland, and Germany as his units First Sergent. Clyde was subsequently promoted to Second Lieutentant and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
After the war, Clyde was an arborist with Wilson Tree Company until retiring as Vice President. He was a member of the American Lgion, VFW, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and the Piedmont Shrine Club. He helped organize and run the annual Crippled Childrens Golf Championship tournaments and was the Hospital Corrinator for the Shrine Hospitals in Greenville, SC & Cincinnati, Ohio. He was Shriner of the Year in 1986 and President of the Shrine Club in 1987. In 1990 he received the Govenor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from NC Govenor Jim Martin. Clyde was also a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir, Lay Person of the Year, and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
