Dwight Bowen

September 11, 1930 — June 16, 2011

Mr. Bowen, of Shelby, NC passed away Thursday, June 17, 2011 at his home, A native of Cleveland County, NC, he was a farmer and former truck driver, and member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Mr. Bowen served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and in Greeland. He received the Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. Mr. Bowen was preceded in death by his parents Garland Bowen & Nellie Poole Bowen, and two brothers Howard Bowen and Dean Bowen. Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife of sixty years Hester Melton Bowen, two daughters Gail Thornton of Boiling Springs, NC, and Cindy Campos and husband Mel also of Boiling Springs, two brothers Bobby Bowen and Garland Bowen Jr. both of Shelby, and a sister Martha Jane Crosby also of Shelby. Mr. Bowen's grandchildren are MeLani Campos and Mindy Campos both of Wilmington, NC, T. J. Thornton of Boiling Springs, and a great grandson Izaiah Campos of Wilmington, NC. Funeral Services will be conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Black pastor of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Rev. Mel Campos. Memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 123 Beaver Dam Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152.
