Mrs. Ernestine Jean Baker Burd, age 88 of Shelby, NC, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at White Oak Manor, Shelby. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, January 9, 2015 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel conducted by Bishop Stan Shaw. A visitation will be held from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, David Shockey and wife Ola of Shelby, NC, a daughter, Billie Jean Rossmiller and husband John of Wonderlake, IL, five grandchildren, Steven Shockey and wife Crystal of Lakeland, FL, Mike Shockey and wife Connie of Lakeland, FL, Debra Harris of Bradenton, FL, Sue Perkins and husband Doug of Gastonia, NC, and Cameron Rossmiller of Wonderlake, IL, twelve great grandchildren, and a brother, Walter R. Baker of Gulf Breeze, FL.
Born March 13, 1926 in Ravenswood, WV, Mrs. Burd was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (Mills) Baker and was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Burd. Ernestine was a member of the Latter Day Saints Church in Shelby, NC. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends.
Pallbearers will be announced.
The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff at White Oak manor for the loving care that they gave Ernestine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28152.
