Mrs. Eva Lou Hamrick Champion, age 87 of Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel conducted by Rev. Richard Lancaster and Rev. Clay Earle. A visitation will be held from 12:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
She is survived by sons; David Champion and wife Lisa of Kings Mountain, Don Champion and Blane Champion, both of Shelby, daughter, Rheba Lancaster and husband Bill of Gaffney, SC, sisters; Catherine Oliver and Martha Greene, brothers; Johnny and Dewey Hamrick, seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Born June 19, 1927 in Shelby, NC, Mrs. Champion was the daughter of the late David and Eliza Carswell Hamrick and was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Raymond Flay Champion, five brothers; J.T. (infant), Harrill (infant), Jim, Archie, and Ben, sisters; Vassey Hoppes, Ruth Barnette, and Elizabeth Morehead and a granddaughter, Lora Lancaster.
Mrs. Champion loved her family first, but also loved playing cards, puzzles, quilting, gardening, watching the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28152.
