Mr. Brant, 73, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at his home in Shelby after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 17, 1934 in Bethune, SC, he was the son of the late George Ezekiel Brant and Helen Ward Brant. He spent his early years in Holly Hill, SC, graduating from Holly Hill High School in 1952. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Chemical Engineering and was commissioned in the US Navy, serving from 1956-1958. He began his professional career with Union Carbide in Charleston, WV, where he married and began his family. He and his family relocated to Shelby, NC in 1965, where he spent the majority of his career with Fiber Industries. He began his own consulting engineering business in the 1980's, working with several companies in Charlotte and Cleveland County, NC. He was a member of the Cleveland Country Club, having had a lifelong passion for the game of golf. He was also an avid supporter of USC Gamecocks, and enjoyed following the financial markets.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Staats Brand; daughter, Catherine Ward Brant of Greenville, NC; three sons George Evans Brant and wife Michele of Tega Cay, SC, Charles Camden Brant of High Point, NC, and Dr. Andrew Robertson Brant and wife Nicole of Morganton, NC, and three grandchildren, Sophie Arrington Brant of Tega Cay, SC, and Ethan Andrew Brant and Alexander Nicholas Brant of Morganton, NC.He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Ward Brant and wife Betty of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and James Bookhardt Brant and wife Susan of Columbia, SC, and brother-in=law Charles E. Staats Jr. and wife Mary of Charleston, SC.
