George Short

April 13, 1925 — August 25, 2013

Mr. George Palmer Short, age 88, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at his residence. A native of Cleveland County, he is the son of the late Elbert Houser Short and Daisy Matheny Short. Mr. Short had worked for Shelby Fish Camp for 50 years. He was also an accountant for several businesses, served as a Notary Public, and a Minister of Music at church. He walked closely with his savior Jesus Christ. He had read his Bible 21 times since the passing of his wife. Mr. Short served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Missouri. He was a member of Manna Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Omie Harvey Short; two brothers, Jack Short and Glenn Short; one sister, JoAnn Matheny.

He is survived by two daughters, Renae Harwell and husband Mickey of Denton, NC and Lark Eskridge of Shelby; three grandchildren, Michael Harwell and wife Barbee, Stephanie Queen and husband Joey, and Jeff Harwell; six great grandchildren; one sister, Grace Deviney; son-in-law, Jimmy Eskridge.
