Mr. Gerald Davis Humphries, 81, of Shelby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
He is survived by four children, Donna Earl Bridges and husband Kenny Martin of Denver, NC, Anita White and husband Jimmy of Shelby, NC, Vance Earl and wife Susan of Blacksburg, SC, and Annette Lindsey and husband Craig of Shelby, NC, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born February 10, 1936 in Cleveland County, Mr. Humphries was the son of the late William and Bruna Davis Humphries and was preceded in death by his wife, Donice Irene Fraser Humphries, five brothers, Ben, Clyde, Grady, James, and Ferald Humphries, three sisters, Rae Beaver, Mattie Eaker, and Mabel Smith and a half-sister, Suzanne Green.
Mr. Humphries was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, and he also served in the nursing home music ministries. Mr. Humphries served in the United States Army where he was a member of the Honor Guard Pistol Team serving in the Kennedy inauguration. He later retired from Dover Mills then worked with his wife in their business, Creative Creations, making and designing floral arrangements and woodworking. Gerald was an avid angler and enjoyed fishing at Lake Murray.
The family would like to express a sincere thanks to his caregivers, Jan Culberth, Nakia Laney, and Alan Laney.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Faith Baptist Church in Shelby, conducted by Dr. J. Barry Goodman and Rev. Johnny Owens. A visitation will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
