Mr. Tilley, 73, of 219 Wall Avenue, Boiling Springs, NC, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at Hospice at Wendover. Mr. Tilley, passed away Friday after fighting a lengthy hospital stay to survive cancer. Gerald was born in Chapel Hill, NC, and raised in Durham, NC. Gerald was a veteran of the U. S. Navy for four years. He lived 30 years in Apex, NC, retired from IBM and spent his retirement riding his Harley and enjoying his grandchildren. He made friends with everyone he met and loved living in the foothills. We all look foward to meeting again with God. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Nichols Tilley & Alma Aycock Tilley, and a brother Nelson Bowles Tilley. Gerald is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Tilley of the home, two daughters Lee Ann Walsh of Raleigh, NC, and Christine Tilley-Hatcher of Shelby, NC, grandchildren Jessica, Jacob and Nicholas Hatcher, and Joshua and John Walsh. In addition to these he is also survived by a sister Brenda Moore and husband Doug of Epping, New Hampshire, a brother Donnie Tilley and wife Jean of Bahama, NC, a uncle Ralph Aycock of Asheville, NC, and two aunts Pearl Kirby and Georgia Pickett both of Durham, NC, and also a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be conducted by Dr. Carroll Page pastor of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Baptist Men of North Carolina, P.O.Box 1107, Cary NC 27512-1107.
