Glenn Wall

January 8, 1928 — November 5, 2011

Mr. Wall, l83, of Elmwood Drive, Shelby, NC, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Hospice House in Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, Mr. Wall had previously worked at Shelby Mill, Ora Mill, was circulation manager for the Shelby Star, at W.A.D.A. radio where he was sports director and in advertising sales and at Petroleuml World in advertising. He currently worked at Mabry Office Supply in sales. Mr. Wall was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Shelby.He was an active participant at the Council on Aging Senior Center and received their volunteer of the year award in 2004. An avid golfer, he was a member of the River Bend and Shelby City Park Golf Clubs. He was a member of the Carolinas Golf Reporters Association. He was the 1980 Champion of the Carolinas Golf Reporters Association tournament at Arcadian Shores Golf Course, Myrtle Beach, SC where he shot a 75-75-150. He was honored by the Carolinas Golf Reporters Association with the golf caster of the year award in 1977. He was known as the voice of the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs from the early 1970's - 1986 and was a former member of the Gardner-Webb University Bulldog Club and served on the University board of directors. He was inducted into the Gardner-Webb University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shay Glenn Wall & Carrie Morrison Wall, deceased son, Michael Glenn Wall, deceased brother, Homer Wall. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn Mooney Wall of the home; grandchildren, Chadwick Michael Wall & wife Heather & Matthew Shay Wall all of Charleston, SC; nieces, Pam Fish & husband Woody and Sherry Clark & husband Terry; nephews, Mark Davis & wife Caroline, Tommy Weaver & wife Dawn, Timmy Weaver & Raymond Mooney as well as a number of great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Shelby, Thursday at 2:30 pm with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Visitation will following in the First Baptist Church Dover Activities Duilding following the service. Memorials may be made to Council on Aging Senior Center, 100 T. R. Harris Blvd., Shelby, NC 28150 or First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150.
