A native of Cleveland County, Mrs. Wheelus was previously employed at Dover Mill Company, P.P.G. and volunteered at Crawley memorial Hospital and the American Red Cross. She owned and operated Hazel's Clay Things for 25 years and also distributed paint and ceramic supplies and taught ceramic classes. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she was very active until 2 or 3 yeaars ago, serving in the children's department, teaching Sunday School and helping in Vacation Bible School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel Forest Ingle and Minnie Ford Ingle; husband, Elmer Lawson "Bud" Wheelus; daughter, Adelia W. Putnam; brothers, Rochele & Sonny Ingle & sister, Beatrice Hamrick. She is survived by a son, Gary Wayne Wheelus & wife, Sylvia of Shelby; daughter Anita Hoyle & husband, Robert of Shelby; Son-In-Law, Richard Putnam of Kinston; brothers, Roscoe Ingle of Black Mountain, Bob Ingle of Shelby, Ronnie Ingle of Raleigh, sisters, Lunell Bradley of New Jersey; Louise Parker of New Prosperity, SC, Linda Schilling of Lexington, grandsons, Christopher Joel Putnam & wife, Gayla of Apex, Steven Eugene Putnam & wife, Kelly of Kinston, granddaughters, Beth Putnam Deichler & hsuband, Peter of Pittsboro, Angela Wheelus McCoy & husband, Randy of Shelby; great granddaughters, Raelynn McCoy, Tristen McCoy, Noel Deichler & Grace Putnam; great grandsons, Joel Putnam, Luke Deichler, Evan Putnam; step grandsons, Robby Barr & Rodney Barr and a number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces & grand nephews.
