Jack Covington

December 22, 1933 — July 9, 2010

Mr. Covington, 76, of Shelby, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he retired from Carolina Freight where he was a truck driver. He was also the owner and manager of Covington Landscaping & Grading and an employee of Cleveland Funeral Services. He was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Methodist Men, Bykota Sunday School Class and served on various committees. Mr. Covington was also a member of the Camp Call Masonic Lodge #534 and served in the U. S. Army. Mr. Covington was preceded in death by his parents Vernon Covington & Beulah Webb Covington, a brother Gene Covington and a sister Janet Brooks. Mr. Covington is survived by his wife Frances Mott Covington of the home, a son Rick Pettit of Thaxton, VA., a grandson Richard Pettit also of Thaxton, VA., and a brother and his wife Dan Covington & Suzy of Ellenboro, NC. In addition to these he is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Tom Steagald pastor of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church.
