Mr. James Alton "Puzie" Moss of Shelby, North Carolina died peacefully in his home on August 14, 2017, surrounded by family at the age of 92.
Puzie was born on March 8, 1925, in Earl, North Carolina, the youngest son of Thomas L. Moss and Catherine McSwain Moss.
On July 11, 1964, he not only became the husband of Judy Blanton Moss, but he also embraced the role of father to her five children. Each of them proudly took his name as well. His wife, Judy, his daughter, Marsha Davis, four sisters, three brothers, step-grandson, Amil Horton, and friend, Sarah McMurray, precede him in death. His living legacy includes a daughter and son-in-law, three sons and daughters-in-law, two step-grandsons, eight grandchildren and their spouses, and nineteen great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

Jodi Grubb and Scott, Sydney Kate and Hallie, Beth Lloyd and Greg, Maggie and Jake, Scott Moss and Karen, Michael "Jackie" Moss, Alandria, Ethane, Elizabeth, and Faith, Katie Walters and Josh, Anna Jaye, Abigail, Abel, Asher, Ari, and Anthem, Jessi Connolly and Nick, Elias, Glory, Ben, and Cannon, Keith Patterson and Amanda, and Marshall, Kevin Patterson and his fiancé, Hannah Nichols, Matthew and Riley Pagett
(Pawpaw Puzie would have affectionately replaced several names with: Kaput, Yuck, Murdock, Meathead, Paleface, Spittin' Image, Goofball, Spanky, Punkin' Head, and Lightning.)
Puzie is a World War II Veteran who served in the Infantry. His loyalty and devotion to family and country are only examples of the selflessness and unconditional love that characterized his life.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Cleveland Funeral Home and other times at the home of James Moss. Services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, August 17, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Russell Bradley. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park with Military Honors.
