Mr. Stewart, 93, of Shelby, NC, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Great Falls, SC, Mr. Stewart had worked at Shelby Mill Company and was the former owner & operator of Jim's Kwick Mart. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, V.F.W., and the D.A.V. He served in the U. S. Army, WWII European Theater. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents Charles Simpson Stewart and Martha Ann Pitman Stewart, and his wife of 72 years, who preceeded him in death 6 weeks ago, Emma Corene Blanton Stewart, brothers; Richard, Sidney, Roy, Jesse, Elton, Lewis, and Howard Stewart, and a sister Ruth Parham. Mr. Stewart is survived by a foster daughter Nieta McDaniel of Shelby, a foster grandson Jamie McDaniel and wife Amy of Shelby, a brother Leslie Stewart of Jackson, Tenn., and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Crawley Memorial Hospital and Hospice at Wendover for the excellent care given to Mr. Stewart. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Reginald Dawkins. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1114 South Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28152.
