Jay Cornwell

Mr. Hugh Cornwell, age 95 of Forest City, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 6, 2015 at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby conducted by Rev. Billy Honeycutt.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mildred Costner Cornwell of the home, a niece, Barbara Strother and husband Ron of Florence, SC, seven nephews, Ronnie Ingle and wife Sandra of Gibsonville, NC, Robert Mitchum and wife Sherry of Columbia, SC, and Kenny Mitchum and wife Sharon of Columbia, SC, Joey Cornwell and wife JoEllen of Lawndale, NC, Donald Rogers and wife Sherry of Concord, NC, Gregory Rogers and wife Doris of Gastonia, NC, and Terry Costner and wife Barbara of Shelby, NC.
Born March 28, 1919 in Cleveland County, Mr. Cornwell was the son of the late Will and Artie (Cline) Cornwell and was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. Hugh owned and operated his own business with his wife Mildred at Cornwell Tractor Company in Forest City for more than 55 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forest City. He enjoyed working on and collecting toy pedal cars and tractors. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
