Jean (Grissom) Lail

Mrs. Jean Grissom Lail, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Atrium Health-Cleveland. A native of Gaston County, she was born on February 4, 1929, daughter of the late Joseph Cephas and Rose Isabella Hannon Grissom. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Farle Lee Lail, a son William Lail, brothers John, Arthur, Brady, Joe Frank, Lloyd, Marshall, Charles and Graham Grissom and sister Arpy Cox.

After high school, she began nurse’s training at Shelby Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1951, where she began working at what was then Shelby Hospital, working for 42 years. She was a dedicated registered nurse, exemplifying hard work and professionalism.

Mrs. Lail is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn, and Steve Morris. She also leaves behind 2 cherished friends, Doris Jackson, and Pat Hamrick.

She was a world traveler, having been to every continent and many countries. She enjoyed the adventure of travel and has been to every state in the United States. Exercise was also very important in her life. She was often at the YMCA several times weekly until her health declined in April.

She was steadfast in her faith, having joined Ascension Lutheran Church at age 14, where she was a dedicated member. Later in her life, she transferred her membership to Aldersgate Methodist Church and attended until her health prevented this.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Services. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hope’s Chest, Red Cross, or Aldersgate Methodist Church.
