Jessie Vansleen

June 6, 1913 — February 16, 2011

Mrs. VanSleen, 97, of Shelby, NC, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Hospice House in Kings Mountain, NC. A native of Cleveland County, Mrs. VanSleen was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Shelby for 71 years, where she worked with United Methodist Women and was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Golden Links Class. Mrs. VanSleen was preceded in death by her parents Marshall Humphries & Pearl Kennedy Humphries, her 1st. husband H. M. "Tony" Hammock Sr. and her 2nd. husband Robert VanSleen, brothers Edward Yates Humphries & wife Mildred, Earl J. Humphries & wife Lucille, and Donald Bryson Humphries, and a sister Hattie Mae Childrez. Mrs. VanSleen is survived by a son H. M. "Tony" Hammock Jr. and wife Phyllis of Myrtle Beach, SC, step children David & wife Yvonne VanSleen of Gastonia, NC, Jane & husband Douglas MacLeon of Raleigh, NC, a sister Bea Porter Justis of Shelby, NC. In addition to to these she is also survived by grandsons Ward & Elizabeth Hammock, and Tommy Hammock all of Myrtle Beach, SC, step grandchildren Chris & MacLeon of Raleigh, NC, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jim & Marty Wilson of Gastonia, NC, and also a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Kings Mountain, 321 Kings Mountain Blvd., Kings Mountain, NC 28086, or Central United Methodist Church, 200 East Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Craig Langston pastor of Central United Methodist Church of Shelby.
