Joel Kendell Jones, age 88 of Shelby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 22, 2021.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nellie Childs Jones of the home, two children, Emily Munoz and husband Dr. Paul Munoz of Shelby, NC, and Maurice Jones and wife Emily of Montgomery, AL, four grandchildren, Jason and Julian Munoz and Grace and Harris Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born July 5, 1933 in Franklin County, GA, Kendell was the son of the late John Clarence Jones and Ruth Morris Jones and was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Kendell was a dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a faithful member of Double Springs Baptist Church where he sung in the choir, a Sunday school teacher, and served as a Deacon. Kendell served in the United States Army and later went into the National Guard. Kendell enjoyed gardening, watching and attending sports (especially the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs). He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially playing with his grandchildren. He will be truly missed by those that knew him.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Double Springs Baptist Church. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30 – 3:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
