Joel Ronnie Wesson

   Joel Ronnie Wesson, age 73, went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, at Atrium Cleveland.
   He is survived by his children, Crystal Wesson Pless (David) of Shelby, NC, and James Anthony Wesson (Amber) of Shelby, NC, five grandchildren, Kendall Grace Wesson, Kaitlyn Ivie Wesson, Delaney Ann Pless, Caleb Allen Pless, and Keira Elizabeth Oxentine, siblings, Purvis Wesson (Mary Jane) of Shelby, NC, Brenda Gardner (Hal) of Shelby, NC, Jessie Hedrick (Sonny) or Raleigh, NC, John Wesson (Doris) of Shelby, NC, Dan Wesson (Antionne) of Shelby, NC, and Gailya Hamrick (John) of Shelby, NC, a special cousin, (Tim) Harvey Allen Jr. of Shelby, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
   Born on March 13th, 1950, he was the son of the late Purvis Iredell and Mae Allen Wesson and was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Wesson.
   Joel graduated from Crest High School in 1968 and Gardner-Webb College in 1972. He retired from Cleveland County Schools Maintenance Department. He took great pride in the fact that he spent his entire life in the Poplar Springs community. His true passion was farming; he found happiness in his connection with the land and spent many hours farming and picking cotton for Hamrick Brothers. Coming from a large family, Joel valued family more than anything; he was the sixth of eight children. Nothing could bring a smile to Joel’s face like spending time with his children and grandchildren. He instilled in them an appreciation for hard work and the value of quiet service.
   Honoring Joel’s wishes, there will be a graveside service at Poplar Springs Baptist Church cemetery on July 23, 2023, at 3:00pm.
