John Cummings

Mr. John Albert Cummings, 54, of 815 McGowan Road, Shelby, N. C.,  died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012,  at his home.

Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of Margaret Gold Cummings and the late James L. Cummings of Shelby.  He attended Shelby schools, where his lifelong love of baseball began, was graduated from Shelby High School in 1976, and attended Western Carolina University.  He worked first at Cummings Furniture Co. and later at Wingate University.  He was a member of Westview Baptist Church.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his twin brother, James Daniel Cummings, and his grandparents, James A. and Grace B. Cummings and Griffin B. and Ellie C. Gold, all of Shelby.

Survivors are his mother, his sons Nick Cummings of Hendersonville and Jonathan Cummings of Fayetteville , brother Mark Cummings and his wife Laura of Kings Mountain, granddaughter Mia Cummings of Hope Mills, niece Allison Cummings and nephew Chris Cummings, both of Kings Mountain.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 ,at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory.  The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 o’clock in the Cleveland Funeral Services chapel.  The Rev. Rick Bowling will officiate.  Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
