John Reynolds

John Laurence Reynolds, age 67, a retired Anesthesiologist, passed away in the presence of his family at Atrium Health- Cleveland Hospital on November 2, 2021. Dr. Reynolds was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He was born on December 31, 1953 in Camden, New Jersey to Robert and Claire Reynolds and grew up in the neighboring town of Pennsauken, NJ. Dr. Reynolds received his undergraduate degree from Temple University and his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara where he met his wife, Solia. He completed a surgical residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Pennsylvania and his anesthesiology residency at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Reynolds spent most of his career as an Anesthesiologist in Shelby, NC. He was one of the founding partners of Shelby Anesthesia Associates in 1986 and served as clinical director of the Ambulatory Surgical Center and staff anesthesiologist at CMS – Cleveland Regional Hospital- now known as Atrium Health- Cleveland. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Reynolds loved to read, even books without pictures, and was often actively involved with his community- serving as a soccer coach, mentor, and friend to countless individuals along the way. He loved to travel and had an eclectic palate. His sense of humor was contagious and had entertaining stories that will forever be cherished among all who knew him.

Aside from his children, his most treasured accomplishment was serving as president of the North Carolina Medical Society (2017-2018). Up until his cancer diagnosis, Dr. Reynolds continued to help shape healthcare policy in the State legislature.

Dr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Solia, his four children and their partners, Eddie and Bethany Reynolds of Johnson City, TN, David and Carissa Reynolds of Shelby, NC, Diane and Charlie Reid of Hong Kong and Nancy Reynolds of Raleigh, NC, his five grandchildren, Grant, Wells, Harry, Miriam, and Teddy as well his brother, Robert Reynolds of Austin, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church where Dr. Reynolds was recently confirmed into the Catholic faith.

A visitation and service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Saint Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 818 McGowan Rd in Shelby from 12:30 – 2:00pm.  A Catholic Mass will be held following the visitation at 2:00pm.  Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
