Kenneth Mayes

Mr. Mayes, 72, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. A native of Cleveland County, NC, he worked for J. J. Digh & Machine Company in Dallas, NC, where he was a machinist. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, the Bethware Progressive Club and served in the U. S. Army. In his younger years, he was an avid baseball player. He also loved fishing with his grandchildren, farming, tending his garden and was also a beekeeper. Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by his parents Frealo Mayes & Laura Ellis Mayes, and three brothers William "Bill" Mayes, Roy Mayes, and Clyde Mayes. Mr. Mayes is survived by his wife of 50 years Emily hamrick Mayes of the home, daughter Cynthia M. Davis and husband Mark P. of Charleston, SC, brothers Lawrence Mayes of Shelby, Morris Mayes & wife Dolly, Wayne Mayes &wife Sally, all of Kings Mountain, NC, and a sister Judy Philbeck & husband Roger also of Kings Mountain, NC. Mr. Mayes had two grandchildren Ashley Elizabeth Davis and ethan Joshua Davis both of Charleston, SC, and one soon to be great-grandchild Kenneth Lee Robey. In addition to these Mr. Mayes is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Craig Mayes, Dr. Ector Hamrick, and Rev Jim Kirby.
