Lucille Black

June 5, 1920 — October 30, 2009

Mrs. Black, 89, of Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Hickory, NC, she was a homemaker, a mdmber of Beaver Dam Baptist church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, WMU leader, GA leader and VBS teacher. She enjoyed reading , sewing, crafts, ceramics, and cooking, for which she was well known for her wonderful pound cakes. Mrs. Black was preceeded in death by her parents Samuel Burch & Pearl Burch Camp Powell, a son Sammy Black, a grandson Christopher Black, a great granddaughter Rachel Hawkins, and three brothers Jim, Tom & Ben Burch and one sister Carolyn Borders. Mrs. Black is survived by her husband John Frank Black of the home, two sons and their wives; Don Black & Beverly of Matthews, NC, John Black & Ellie of Shelby, NC, a daughter and her husband Sylvia Hawkins & Roger of Shelby. Her grandchildren are (Grandsons); Kevin Hawkins & wife Kris of Charlotte, Shannon Black & wife Heather, Eric Black & wife Jennifer, & Jeff Black all of Shelby, Nick Black & wife Heather of McLeansville, NC, (Granddaughter) Kelly Spangler & husband Gary of Shelby. Mrs. Black has three great granddaughters; Katelyn Spangler, Kamryn Spangler & Taylor Black all of Shelby, and three great grandsons Jackson Hawkins & Ryan Hawkins both of Charlotte and Lane Black of Shelby. In addition to these she is survived by two sisters Ann Moss & husband Marcus of Cherryville, and Peggy Barrett & husband Charles of Shelby. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Paul Sorrells, Revs. Jimmy Black & Phil Hughes. Memorials may be made to either Beaver Dam Baptist Church Building Fund, 123 Beaver Dam Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152, or Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
