Lucille Gardner

March 27, 1918 — August 9, 2012

Mrs. Lucille H. Gardner, 94, of Shelby passed away at White Oak Manor of

Kings Mountain on August 9, 2012.  Born March 27, 1918, in Baker County,

Florida, she was the daughter of the late Monroe  and Susie Hendrick.



She graduated from Number Three High School and retired from Fiber

Industries.



In addition to her parents, Lucille  was also preceded in death by three

sisters; Evelyn Eaker, Winona Brooks and Thelda Hendrick; and one

granddaughter; Kimberly Jo Hastings Pruett.



Lucille was very active in Double Springs Baptist Church where she served

as Superintendent of Sunday School and many other capacities, sang in the

choir and especially loved the Singing Christmas Tree.  She was active in their

senior JOY Club and the Prayer Shawl Ministry and the Dorcus Sunday School

Class.  She was a member of the Broad River Genealogy Society and traced

her family ancestry back to the 1600's.  She wrote  Limbs and Twigs a

genealogy book on her ancestors.  She was known for her homemade mints,

sourdough rolls, fried apple pies and broad smiles for everyone.



She is survived by her sons Jerry (Joyce) of Shelby; Jim (Nancy) of

Spartanburg, SC;  Steve (Diann) of Shelby; and Karen Shepherd of Shelby.

She is also survived by grandchildren David Gardner, Caroline Clark, Jamie

Clary, Samantha Barrett, and Colt Biddix; John Mark Hastings; eleven great-

grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also survived by

a special niece, Rebecca Holmes.



The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregivers at White

Oak Manor-  Kings Mountain.  They cared for her and loved on her until the end.



Visitation:  The family will receive friends at Double Springs Baptist Church

in the Family Life Center, Saturday, August 11th, 10:00 - 11:00 AM

Funeral:    Double Springs Baptist Church, Saturday at 11:00 AM
