Macy Brooks

June 26, 1926 — July 20, 2011

Mrs. Brooks, 85, of Shelby, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. A native of Rutherford County, NC, Mrs. Brooks retired from Peeler Insurance & Realtor where she was the office manager. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church where she was in the Dorcas Sunday School Class and had previously served in the WMU and as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church choir. Macy loved gardening and bird watching and was well known for her delicious pies which she shared generously with others. Macy was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Clifford C. Crow & Lilly Toney Crow and was also preceded in death by a son Bill Brooks, and a brother Dr. John Buren Crow. Macy is survived by her husband, Jennings Brooks Sr. of the home and two daughters, Patsy Brooks Ellis & husband Michael of Moseley, VA., and Penny Brooks Russ & husband Garry of Winston-Salem, NC, a daughter-in-law Carolyn Brooks of Shelby; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Fryar and Rev. Glenn Walker. Memorials may be made to Double Springs Baptist Church, Family Life Center, 1130 Double Springs Church Road, Shelby, NC 28150 or Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
