Madge Cornwell

June 11, 1924 — July 15, 2012

Mrs. Madge W. Cornwell, 88, of 2001 N. Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC peacefully

passed away at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby on Sunday, July 15, 2012 with her

husband and family at her bedside.  A native of Cleveland County, she was born

June 11, 1924 to the late Clenzo R. Wright and Essie Martin Wright of Fallston, NC.

Mrs. Cornwell was a member of Zion Baptist Church for her adult life after being

a member of Friendship Methodist Church of Fallston in her formative years.  She

was a graduate of Fallston High School.  She was a loving wife, caring mother and

homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Thelbert

Wright of Charlotte, Wray Wright of Shelby, and Wayne Wright of Lincolnton, and

her sisters: Lucy Gardner of Shelby, Azalene Hoyle of Lawndale, and Bryte Lancaster

of Fallston.

Married on November 4, 1942, she is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years,

Max H. Cornwell of Shelby; daughter, Ms. Kay Cornwell of Charlotte; and son,

Richard M. "Dickie" Cornwell and his wife, Linda of Shelby;  grandsons: Brad R.

Cornwell and his wife, Heather of Shelby, Jeffrey M. Cornwell and his wife, Mary of

Lawndale, and Matthew T. Cornwell and his wife, Lindsay of Shelby, and great-

grandchildren: Sam Cornwell, Lily Cornwell, Julia Cornwell, Troy Cornwell, and

London Cornwell and, soon to be born, Josie Elizabeth Cornwell.  She is also survived

by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of her care givers over the last few years for their

patience and understanding.  Special thanks to Upper Cleveland Medical Clinic staff

members, Dr. Ted Cash and RN Karen Bess, the workers and staff at Carolina Care

Center in Cherryville, the workers and staff at White Oak Manor in Shelby, the doctors

and nurses at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, and the doctors and nurses at

Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.



Visitation:  The family will receive fiends Tuesday, July 17 at Cleveland Funeral

Services from 5 to 7 PM.

Funeral:  Wednesday, July 18 at Zion Baptist Church at 11 AM with Dr. Danny West

officiating.

Burial:  Zion Baptist Church Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Zion Baptist Church Building Fund,

Hospice at Wendover in Shelby, or to the charity of the donors choosing.
