Mama Blanton

Mama Susie Blanton, age 101, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 surrounded by her children.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Betty Blanton of Marion, NC, a daughter, Shirley Pyron and husband Bobby and a son Tony Blanton and wife Hilda, both of Shelby, NC, six grandchildren, Rhonda B. Wood and husband Ron, Todd F. Blanton and wife Nora, Gwen P. Triplett and husband Tim, Gene Pyron and wife Alice, Carl V. Blanton and wife Mary, all of Shelby, NC, and Laura B. Mitchell and husband Mark of Charlotte, NC, fifteen great Grandchildren, Shana W. Price and husband Brandon of Shelby, NC, Dustin Wood of Greenwood, SC, Tim Luckadoo and wife Dana of Shelby, NC, Tony Luckadoo and wife Sharron of Ellenboro, NC, Charlie Luckadoo of Blacksburg, SC, Aaron Triplett of Concord, NC, Rebecca Triplett, Malia Pyron, Jed Pyron, Lana Pyron all of Shelby, NC, Casey Francis of Charlotte, NC, Hunter Francis of Boiling Springs, NC, Jessie Blanton, Jodi Blanton, and Jack Blanton, all of Shelby, NC, nine great great grandchildren, Reed Price, Josiah Price, Georgia Grace Price, Kaylyn Luckadoo, Wyatt Luckadoo, Makenzie Luckadoo, Madison Luckadoo, Trey Luckadoo, and Ragan Shope, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born September 21, 1915 in Hart County, GA, Mrs. Blanton was the daughter of the late Charles Gettys Chapman and Mary Lou Carter Chapman and was preceded in death by her husband, Zeb Vance Blanton Jr., three children, Zeb Vance Blanton III, and twins, Mary and Martha Blanton, two brothers, J. Wilbur Chapman and wife Myra and C.B. Chapman and wife Rachel and a sister, Mary C. Howe and husband Gordon.
Mama Susie met the love of her life and married Zeb V. Blanton on October 16, 1937. They lived happily raising their three children and serving their Lord for 63 years until Zeb's death in 2000.
Mama Susie was an active member of her beloved Sharon United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher and held numerous committee jobs. Her most cherished job was that of communion Steward for 15 years. She spent her Sunday afternoons following communion washing the little wine glasses and drying them by hand. She took great pride in washing, home-made starching and ironing the communion cloths.
She served her United Methodist Women in her home as Chairperson for eight years. She passed that honor upon her 99th birthday.
The family wished to thank the wonderful nursing staff and Chaplain Rev. Dr. Janice Cooper of Hospice of Cleveland County for their love and great care during "Mama Susie's" illness.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Sharon United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Sarah Underwood. A visitation will be held from 1:30 - 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
