Mr. Manuel Allen Setzer, age 84 of Shelby, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Wendover Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 3, 2014 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park Mausoleum.
He is survived by two sons, John Setzer of Boiling Springs, NC, and Paul Setzer of Kings Mountain, NC, a daughter, Melinda Jordan and husband Kenneth Blanton of Boiling Springs, NC, and two grandchildren, Christopher Jordan and James Allen Jordan, a sister, Betty Setzer Parlier of Stanly, NC, a sister-in-law, Pat Setzer of Georgia, a niece, Lisa Birch of Gastonia, NC, a nephew Wade Parlier of Maiden, NC and several other nieces and nephews.
Born December 24, 1930 in Caldwell County, Mr. Setzer was the son of the late Manuel A. and Ruby (Rutledge) Setzer and was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Isabell Caroll (Shuffler) Setzer, two brothers, David Setzer and Mark Setzer. Allen graduated from Hudson High School. After graduation, he continued his education at Lenoir-Rhyne College where he took part in Drama. Received his Masters at UNC Chapel Hill and also studied at Mexico City and Madrid Spain. Serving in the United States Army, he was stationed in New Mexico. Allen also acted and played the part of a soldier in Unto These Hills in Cherokee. He enjoyed working at the radio station and working in the garden.
Pallbearers will be members of the BLET Class 68.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28152.
