Mrs. Margaret Singleton Willis Anthony of Polkville Rd., Shelby, celebrated her 101 birthday with the Lord on April 11, 2012. A devoted Christian, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Anthony was born April 11, 1911 to the late Minnie Powell and Mark G. Singleton of Morganton. Mrs. Anthony is preceded in death by her husbands, George R. Willis of Morganton and Irvin F. Anthony, Sr. of Shelby; four brothers, Albert Singleton, Charles Singleton, Harold Singleton of Morganton and Erwin (Chick) Singleton of Shelby; four sisters, Mary Deal of Valdese, Nellie Hogan of Morganton, and Iva Bridges Edwards of Pottstown, PA. and Donnie Keever of Valdese, NC. Mrs. Anthony is survived by her son, Irvin F. Anthony, Jr. and wife, Dawn Matthews Anthony of Shelby; grandchildren, Tony Anthony and wife, Kimberly of Boone; Keely Sisco and husband, Phillip, of Banner Elk and Natalie Anthony of Shelby; three great grandchildren, Connor, Titus and Kelty of Boone; one brother, Marcus Glenn Singleton and wife, Marilyn, of Pacific Palicades, CA and numerous nieces & nephews.
A member of First Baptist Church, Shelby for over 60 years, Mrs. Anthony was active with the Love's Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. After retiring from Ora Mill as a cloth inspector, Mrs. Anthony served as a volunteer with Cleveland Regional Medical Center, American Red Cross, V.F.W. and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
