Marie Lovelace

Mrs. Marie McMurry Lovelace, age 95 of Shelby, NC, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Wendover Hospice, Shelby.
She is survived by three children, Linda Wilson , Diane Lovelace, and Rita Robbins, all of Shelby, NC, three grandchildren, Bryan Wilson and wife Vickie of Charlotte, NC, Matt Wilson and wife Marlene of Asheville, NC, and Guy Robbins of Shelby, NC, two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Walter Wilson of Charlotte, NC, a brother, Kenneth McMurry and wife Helen of Polkville, NC, a sister, Ruth Moore of Lawrenceville, GA, two sister-in-laws, Sedahlia McMurry of Georgia, and Jean McMurry of Mt. Holly, NC.
Born June 30, 1920 in Cleveland County, Mrs. Lovelace was the daughter of the late Ernest and Laura (Grigg) McMurry and was preceded in death by her husband, Rafe Reinhardt Lovelace, three brothers, Paul, Ralph, and Sam McMurray, two sisters, Mildred Foust and Mary Thornbro, and two son-in-laws, Furman Robbins and Ron Wilson.
Mrs. Lovelace graduated from Polkville High School in 1935. As a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, she served in the children's department for more than 40 years. She was also a member of the choir, the Joy Club and the GA missions, and an active member and volunteer of the Neal Senior Center. During WWII, she volunteered with the USO in California. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Double Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Bill Fryar. A visitation will be held from 1:30 - 3:00 pm prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Double Springs Baptist Church, 1130 Double Springs Church Road, Shelby, NC 28150 or to the Neal Senior Center, 100 T R Harris Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
