Mr. Marion Douglas "Doug" Chapman, age 72, of Shelby, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Wendover Hospice House. A native of Dillon County, SC he is the son of the late Hubert Chapman and Nellie Hayes Chapman. Mr. Chapman loved watching the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Panthers. He also enjoyed cooking and restoring old cars. He served for three years in the South Carolina Army National Guard. Doug was a people person never meeting a stranger and always willing to help. Doug was also known for his pizzas. He was former manager of Pizza Inn of Shelby and former owner of Bob's Seafood until his health started to decline. He also owned Chapman Mobile Home Park. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Don Chapman, Leo Chapman, and James Chapman; two sisters, Clara Belle Rawls and Gladys Morris.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joyce M. Chapman of the home; two sons, Terrence Smith and wife Juanita and Darren Smith and wife Angela both of Shelby; grandchildren, Jim Lockadoo, Luke Hamrick, and Christopher Davidson; special grandson, Preston Smith; great granddaughter, Makinzie Smith who was his little princess. He is also survived by three sister-in-laws, Ruth Moore, Vera Espeno and husband Frank both of Florence, AL and Mildred Richardson and husband Jerry of Cabot, AR; brother-in-law, James Moore and wife Dean of Lawrenceburg, TN; numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends that were like family.
