Mary Waite

Mary Margaret Collo Waite, age 72 of Shelby, passed away Friday, November 22, 2019 at her residence.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Waite of the home, a brother, Michael Collo, three sisters, Dorothy Carkner, Pat Arey (Ken), and Fran Lawrence (David), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born January 18, 1947 in St. Lawrence County, NY, Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Madeline Collo and was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Carkner.  Mary was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Lattimore, NC.  She was a collector of trinkets, loved working in her garden, traveling, camping, and going on ladies retreats.  Mary was very proud of her American heritage.  She was proud to be a wife of her Marine USMC.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Cleveland Funeral Services in Shelby.  Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Victory Baptist Church, 3907 Towery Road, Lattimore, NC, conducted by Rev. Loyd Swofford and Rev. Jimmy Jones.  Burial will be at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
