Mescal Wilkie Davis, 91, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016.
Mrs. Davis, born in Cleveland County, graduated from Shelby High School in 1942. She lived in Shelby until 2004, and then resided in Southport from 2004 to 2010. She retired from Southern Bell in Shelby with 36 years of service and was a life member of AT&T Telephone Pioneers, retiring as a service representative. In 2010 she moved to Greenville, where she stayed until her death. She was a charter member of Foothills American Ex-Prisoners of War and served as a secretary and a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church in Shelby, where she was part of Lois Bible Class and Prime Timers.
Her Significant role in life, and what she did best, was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was known as "Mimi" to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Roe Davis; sisters, Etta W. Lail, Hattie W. Horner, Arrie W. Padgette, Vertie W. Gilreath, and Mallie "Velvie" Wilkie; and brothers, Darvin G. Wilkie, Manie M. Wilkie and J.L. Wilkie.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Davis Griffin and husband Tom of Southport, and Tiffany Davis Vincent and husband Ronald of Greenville; grandchildren, Missy Griffin Whalen and husband Pete of Southport, Reid Griffin and wife Jenny of Dallas, TX, Beau and Wallace Benfield of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Susanna, Wren, and Peter Whalen, and Grant and Reese Griffin.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016, in the Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
