Philip Winford Nesbitt died June 4, 2023, after a brief hospital stay in Charlotte and Concord, NC hospitals. He was born December 20, 1951, in China Grove, North Carolina, and was the first child of Andrew Winford Nesbitt and Vanda Whicker Nesbitt Whisnant, the oldest of three children. Both parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sisters and their spouses, Wanda Nesbitt Sanderson (Perry) of Hendersonville, and Patty Nesbitt Morales (Dan) of Cary. Also surviving are his nephews Ben Davidson (Christen) of Fairview and Patrick Davidson (Ameliah) of Marion, his great-nephews, Porter and Reid, and great-nieces, Camryn and Parker. Additionally, he is survived by some very special and well-loved friends and cousins.
Phil grew up in Mooresboro, NC, and lived most of his life in Charlotte. He attended UNC-Charlotte before transferring and graduating with a degree in Political Science from NC State and was very active in student government at both universities. He worked many years in the insurance industry with multiple companies. Phil loved animals and could be turned to mush at the sight of a sweet little furry face. He was an organ donor and offered his eyes, in death, to hopefully improve the life of another.
He loved his family and friends with great affection. All of you gave him many wonderful memories and brought joy to his life. He probably gave many of you some memories in return. Phil was just as diligent to attending to the needs of the neighbors in his HOA. He was especially attentive to ensuring the elderly and others with individual needs were treated fairly and with respect.
Phil requested there be no public visitation and that his service be limited to immediate family only. He will be buried beside his parents at Sandy Run Baptist Church in Mooresboro, NC. A celebration of life will be considered at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to Sandy Run Baptist Church in Mooresboro, the American Heart Association, Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption (42 Deep River Road, PO Box 2642, Sanford, NC 27331) or other Animal Welfare group.
The family would like to thank all of our friends and family for their love and support. Phil loved you all. We also wish to thank the incredible folks in ICU in Atrium Health University City Hospital in Charlotte and those in Cardiac ICU at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord, North Carolina.
May his wonderful soul rest in peace.
