Mr. Raymond Romey Horton, 66, of Shelby, passed away at Hospice of Cleveland County on December 28, 2012. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Romey R. Horton & Lexie Lovelace Horton. Raymond loved God, his family. and his friends. He attended Bethware School, worked at Fiber Industries and retired from Eaton Corporation.
He was a proud Marine and served in the Vietnam conflict. He was a member and former Commandant of the Marine Corps League #1164 and a member of Friendship Masonic Lodge #388 in Boiling Springs.
He was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon and was also a R. A. Leader for a while.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mozelle Arrowood, Betty Horton, Winnie Thrasher, Jewell Clarkson and Peggy Hice; and a brother, Ben Horton.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Rollins Horton of the home; daughters, Susan Wood and husband, Ronnie of Ellenboro, Pam Lemons Lail of Shelby; son, Ricky Lemons and wife, Terry of
Boiling Springs; special granddaughter, Jessica Lail of Boiling Springs, granddaughter Ashley Parker of Shelby; grandson, John Lemons of Shelby; sisters, Sandy and Don Scates, Lona & Dean Freeman and
Becky & Harold Edwards of McConnells, SC ; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at
Cleveland Funeral Services & Crematory,
Saturday, 6:00 - 8:00 pm and other times at the home.
Funeral: Sandy Run Baptist Church, Sunday at 2:00 pm
Officiating: Rev. Andrew Rawls & Rev. Andy Oliver
